Steel Storage Building
If you want a
storage building that is built to last, then you want a steel
storage building.
We're talking
galvanized steel, a polyester enamel finish that is double
baked on, and a galvanized frame that is hot dipped for extra
strength. They may not be as pretty as some wood storage
building, but you're not looking for beauty. You're looking for
toughness, durability and security.
Let's do a quick comparison. Wood is
subject to rot, weather damage, and even rats that can work
their way inside. When a rat burrows in, it won't be too long
before you find the cables on your lawn mower chewed. Your
tools may begin to rust. There are a number of things that can
go wrong. A steel storage building offers
protection.
And if you have delicate items or
antiques, metal storage buildings can be climate controlled
much easier as well. Those extreme temperature changes outside
will not damage any delicate items on the inside.
If you worry about crime, metal offers
you protection that is unmatched by any other material.
Expensive items are safe from all intruders.
So now that you've decided on a steel
storage building let's take a look at your options, and discuss
a few of the disadvantages. The most common and basic unit has
an arch style. Interlocking metal ribs form the sides and the
roof. They are relatively easy to put together with nominal
construction abilities. However there are some drawbacks. These
buildings are not easy to customize. The overhead clearance
gets considerably smaller towards the edges making shelving
space harder to come by. And you can only place doors and
windows in the endwalls, not on the sides.
A rigid frame building however does
not have some of these restrictions. Steel skeleton framing and
flat steel panels on the roof and walls makes it so windows and
doors can be place in any wall. These buildings can also be
expanded if necessary. However you'll need more equipment and
more know how to construct one. The good news is that you can
easily construct your building to any size you might
need.
The size you get of course depends on
your needs. Just remember that if you are making the building
temperature controlled, more space means higher heating and
cooling costs. Don't get more building than you
need.
A steel storage building is a great
way to keep your valuables safe. And it's durable enough to
last a lifetime and stand up to bad conditions. It will keep
your items safe from theives and it can be climate controlled
to keep more delicate items. But remember that it does require
a certain amount of expertise to put one up. And you can't just
simply lift it and move it should you decide you want it in a
different location or if you happen to be moving. Plus, it will
never look as good as a finely constructed wood building. Weigh
the plusses and minuses to determine if this type of building
is right for you.
